There is nothing new under the sun…turn, turn, turn

Our old friend is now our enemy – views on Agha Saeed since 1974

Geopolitics is not constant. A couple of centuries ago, the United States and United Kingdom were warring enemies; next thing you know, the two countries have a special relationship.

Agha Saeed knows how geopolitics can change. He was born in Pakistan, began attending Iowa State University in 1974, and became a U.S. citizen in 1982. In 2007 and 2008 he was under NSA surveillance, according to Glenn Greenwald and Edward Snowden. After being contacted, he made a succinct observation about changes in U.S. policies over the years, from the time of the Afghan freedom fighters (during the Soviet adventure) to the time of al Qaeda.

In the 1980s [the FBI] were suspicious of me over my opposition to arming Afghan Islamists; now they accuse me of being an Islamist.
